The House

View of the living and pond

At the end of a footpath that begins a short way from the centre of the artists’ village of UBUD you’ll find our tropical hideaway, our home in Bali.

A private Balinese house, hidden from view, secluded from the noise and bustle of the town, in an oasis of calm and beauty overlooking the River Wos.

To the north a view of the Agung volcano, to the east the river, to the south and west, trees and beyond them the wide expanse of rice fields.

Our Bali home in Ubud was not built as a villa to rent or as part of a resort. Our hideaway, called Vanaprasha, or ‘back to the forest’ has been a home for ourselves and family and friends since 1988. Our staff have been with us for almost as long

Set in an acre of tropical garden with lotus pond, the house comprises a large bungalow with open living area, two double bedrooms with four-poster beds, one twin children’s room and a separate ‘jungle’ chalet with a spectacular view of the river Wos from the verandah. All have bathrooms.

Other spots for relaxing and dreaming away the day include a large swimming pool with view over the rice fields and various covered and open verandahs and bales.

Like lots of lovely places Vanaprasha has been deprived of guests for a long time during the Covid pandemic. Now things seem to be getting back to normal and it is being given the attention it deserves in the way of repairs and refurbishments. Our first guests are coming in May!

To encourage you to come back and to keep our loyal staff happy we’re charging very reasonable rates for the time being.
